This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and marking, packaging, transportation, and storage requirements for the food additive shellac. This standard is applicable to shellac flakes produced by thermal filtration or solvent methods, decolorized shellac flakes decolorized by activated carbon, and Bleached shellac in granular or flake form bleached with bleach.
