This standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules and marking, packaging, transportation, storage and other requirements for lead-acid batteries for ship starting. This standard applies to lead-acid batteries with a rated voltage of 6 V and 12 V for starting and igniting internal combustion engines on ships and offshore platforms. This standard does not apply to batteries used for other purposes, such as batteries for starting railway diesel locomotives.
