This standard specifies two methods for determining the melting point of polyamide. The melting point is an arbitrary measured temperature that actually has a range of temperatures. For a homopolymer, this range is only a few degrees. Determination of the melting point is useful for the characterization of polyamide homopolymers, but less useful for copolymers since the melting range of copolymers can be quite wide. The test results of any of the two methods described in this standard are very close. And the results measured by the two methods are also extremely consistent. Other methods than these two may give very different results.
