This standard is applicable to the determination of water-soluble substances, water-soluble inorganic substances and water-soluble organic substances of various types of leather. The determination of water-soluble content depends on the degree of grinding of the leather, extraction temperature, extraction time and the ratio of leather to water. To obtain comparative results, the test conditions must be strictly adhered to. In any case, any ammonium salt is present in the solution as a water-soluble organic substance in the form of ammonium sulfate.
