This standard specifies the determination method of methylene chloride extract in leather and is applicable to various types of leather. Fats and fat-like substances cannot be fully extracted from leather using organic solvents. They may be partially dissolved in the leather and partially bonded to the leather. Solvents, on the other hand, can dissolve non-fatty substances, such as sulfur and filler substances. These two substances can cause difficulties in determining the acid value and saponification value of fats.
