- This standard specifies certain characteristics of benzyl acetate to facilitate the evaluation of its quality. Benzyl acetate is synthesized from benzyl alcohol and acetic acid through an esterification reaction using sulfuric acid as a catalyst. Benzyl acetate is mainly used to prepare food flavors and toothpaste flavors. This standard refers to the American Essential Oils Association standard EOA No33-77 "Benzyl acetate".
