Scope
This standard is a technical specification for using Frame Relay switches as MPLS label switching routers. This kind of frame relay switch will be able to run network layer routing protocols (such as OSPF, IS-IS, etc.). Therefore, it can forward messages based on the network layer topology map constructed based on these routing algorithms, and no longer requires specific Frame Relay routing. Frame Relay permanent virtual circuits (PVCs) can be configured for tagged forwarding of traffic flows. If the Frame Relay switch can label and encapsulate the MPLS service flow based on the network layer routing information and forward it, the Frame Relay switch forwarding the service flow becomes a label switching router. The top level tag will be stored in the DLCI field.
