- This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking, transportation and storage requirements for the pharmaceutical excipient tartrazine. This standard applies to the condensation of dihydroxytartaric acid and phenylhydrazine-sulfonic acid, or the coupling of p-aminobenzenesulfonic acid with 1-(4-sulfonylbenzene)-3-hydroxy, 5-pyrazolone after diazotization of dyes. This product can be added to medicines as a coloring agent.
