- This standard applies to nominal voltage 12 V lead-acid batteries (hereinafter referred to as batteries) used for starting, lighting, ignition, and power sources for auxiliary devices of internal combustion engine vehicles. It also applies to widely used passenger vehicles and lightweight vehicles. Lead-acid batteries for starting commercial vehicles. Note: This standard does not apply to batteries used for other purposes, such as starting batteries for internal combustion engines in trains.
