Scope
This standard specifies the method for measuring the flash point and ignition point of petroleum products using a Kirschner open cup, but it is not applicable to fuel oil and oils with an open cup flash point below 79°C (175°F). Note 1: This standard uses metric units as the basis, and the imperial units listed are for reference only. Note 2: This standard can be used to test and describe the resistance of materials, products or components to heat and fire under controlled laboratory conditions.
