Scope
This standard specifies test methods for automotive pneumatic brakes. However, it does not apply to large and small special vehicles, those with a nominal gross combined weight (GCW) exceeding 40 metric tons, and long trailers. Here, air brakes are devices that use compressed air to operate the braking mechanism. They also include hydraulic braking devices that use compressed air to drive hydraulic pressure to operate mechanical braking mechanisms, but do not include devices designed to increase the hydraulic pressure of hydraulic brakes.
