- This standard stipulates that when the population standard deviation is known, whether there is a difference (either larger or smaller) between the population mean and the set benchmark value is measured by sampling from the population (or a fairly representative batch) The test method is based on the value (the population standard deviation is known (Note 1), one-sided test). Note: 1. This method is applicable to the standard deviation of characteristic values of product batches that have been obtained from past records.
