Scope

This standard specifies a test method for measuring the relationship between strain and stress of an optical fiber under tension until the fiber breaks (the stress at this time is the ultimate tensile strength). This strain-stress curve can be used to determine the suitability of optical fiber for use under certain stresses. This method is 100% destructive and does not replace any feasible quality assurance testing. This test is only applicable to the tensile strength measurement of individual optical fibers.
