- This standard specifies a method for testing the density, relative density (specific gravity) or API specific gravity of crude oil, petroleum products, or liquid mixtures of petroleum and non-petroleum products with a Wright's vapor pressure of less than 180 kPa (26 psi) using a glass specific gravity meter. Note: The above data are measured with a specific gravity meter at a convenient temperature. When reading the density, use the international standard comparison table to convert it into a value of 15oC. Read the relative density.
