Scope

This standard applies to a variable-length format used to represent latitude, longitude, and altitude in data exchange. The representation of altitude is arbitrary and is implicit in the format. This standard allows the use of ordinary sexagesimal notation, including degrees, minutes and seconds, and various combinations of sexagesimal and decimal notation, – degrees and decimals
