This International Standard specifies a method for the determination of sulfated ash in new lubricating oils containing additives and in the additives themselves. These additives usually contain one or more of the following metals: barium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, potassium, sodium or tin. The elements sulfur, phosphorus or chlorine can also be present in combined form.
