The purpose of this standard is: a) The description of a method to determine the resistance of glass to attack by a boiling aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate. The resistance of the glass to the aforementioned attack is evaluated as an inverse function of the weight loss per unit area experienced by the sample. b) The classification of glasses according to their alkaline resistance determined by the procedure indicated in this standard.
