The purpose of this standard is the identification and determination of peanut oil, in a mixture with other vegetable oils, such as olive, cotton, corn or soybean. It is based on the isolation and characterization, by its melting point, of arachic acid, present only in an appreciable quantity by this procedure, in peanut oil. By the procedure described in this standard, the presence of peanut oil can be recognized, from 5 to 10%, in a mixture with the aforementioned oils.
