1.1 This standard defines the basic measurements and requirements for the specification and testing of containers with the intention of dedicating them to exclusive use in conjunction with large-capacity fixed-wing aircraft. 1.2 Containers will have nominal cross-sectional measurements of 2.44 m x 2.44 m (8 ft x 8 ft), and lengths of 3 m, 6 m, 9 m and 12 m (10 ft, 20 ft, 30 ft and 40ft). 1.3 Air containers will normally be on roller transfer systems equivalent to those of aircraft and/or on auxiliary ground handling equipment. 1.4 Containers for air/land transport (intermodal) are specified in the UNE 28-597 (ISO 8323) standard.
