This standard specifies orientation and empirical values for the arithmetic average roughness Ra that can be achieved in forming, forming and material-removing manufacturing processes, which can be produced with normal or special effort. The graphic representation on page 3 helps the designer and the work planner to determine the manufacturing processes that lead to the desired roughness in an economically cost-effective manner.
