Describes a procedure for measuring spectral attenuation of single-mode optical fibers. This procedure is restricted to nonpolarization-sensitive fibers at wavelengths greater than or equal to that at which the fiber is effectively single-mode. The effective cutoff wavelength is determined by the high-order mode filter.
