FprCEN/TS 1993-1-901 CEN/TS 1993-1-901 Eurocode 3 — Design of steel structures — Part 1-901: Fatigue design of orthotropic bridge decks with the hot spot stress method
The TS provides the hot-spot detail categories for the various welded details in an orthotropic bridge deck. It provides hot-spot stress range reduction factors, that are detail dependent, and that can be applied to design the deck with the hot-spot stress detail categories in EN 1993-1-9. Reduction factors account for residual stress fields, load shedding, and stress ratio of each of the details in orthotropic bridge decks. The TS also provides a modelling method to estimate the hot-spot stresses, in case the model used to determine the hot-spot stress is a finite element model consisting of shell elements (as an alternative to solid elements, from which the hot-spot stress can be determined with conventional methods). For cracks starting from weld roots, the TS will provide a method based on linearization of stress from a finite element model, and a stress range reduction factor is provided such, that the detail can be verified using the detail categories in EN 1993-1-9.
