Scope
Purpose AEP-45 has been developed to provide data development standards for those nations who have or who are about to introduce automatic data processing (ADP) for NBC Reporting and Warning purposes. NATO requires that national Data Systems be interoperable. The problem is more acute when related to automated systems. However@ more conventional systems@ relying on little more than a telegraph system to transmit manreadable messages@ will be used for the foreseeable future and therefore must equally be taken into account. When developing NATO NBC standards to satisfy combined operational requirements; these standards must be man readable as well as machine processable. Accordingly@ the NBC reporting standards given in this AEP are recommended for both manual and automated information exchanges to complement the manual procedures of ATP-45. A single common definition for all operational NBC information throughout NATO is needed to achieve interoperability.
