Scope
The purpose of this standard is to establish a method for determining the dynamic viscosity of glass using rotation viscometers; and in particular, the viscosity-temperature relationship at any temperature or viscosity within the measurement range. This standard covers viscosity ranges for melting, refining and working (working) glass. This method allows continuous measurements and measurements under shear stresses. (for example, for the determination of flow curves) to check the behavior of glass as a Newtonian liquid. Depending on the particular viscosity-temperature relationship of the glass tested, the viscosity range covered by this method extends approximately from 10 to 108 dPa ■ s1) in the temperature range of 1 600 °C to 600 °C, and the corresponding necessary torque from 0.1 to 20 N ■ mm, according to the construction of the apparatus. The method is applicable if the rotation frequency does not exceed 8 s-1. However, at frequencies higher than 1 s1 the forces of inertia can be neglected.
