Scope
1.1 This test method covers the determination of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in the vapor phase (equilibrium headspace) of a residual fuel oil sample. 1.2 The test method is applicable to liquids with a viscosity range of 5.5 mm'/a at 40 °C to 50 mm'/s at 100 °C. The test method is applicable to Specification D396 Grades Nos. 4, 5(Heavy), and 6. 1.3 The applicable range is from <5 to 4,000 parts per million by volume (ppm v/v)(micro mole/mole). 1.4 This standard may involve hazardous materials, operations, and equipment. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
